6. Known problems
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6.1 Help file does not work under Windows 2000 or NT Equinox are currently looking into
this problem.
6.2 Meridian does not support file names longer than 8 characters
This is because Meridian is a 16-bit Windows application and therefore does not support long
file names. Equinox have developed a new Toolsuite called EQTools which is fully Windows
32-bit compliant and does support long filenames. Unfortunately, this toolsuite does not
currently support the Micro-ISP Series III/IV or Activ8r programmers.
6.3 AT89S8252 / AT89S53 ISP problems
i. There is a known programming issue with all Atmel AT89S devices in 'Serial Programming Mode'.
The problem is usually that the device can be programmed once and then further attempts always
fail. Atmel have released a new revision of the AT89S silicon (rev U) which hopefully fixes this
problem. If you would like to receive samples of this new part to evaluate,
please contact mcu@atmel.com and ask for samples for the AT89S8252 rev U.
ii. Some customers have found that it takes a long time to program AT89S devices at certain
PC BAUD rates. Equinox have not yet been able to reproduce the problem, but we are looking
into it. As soon as we can find the problem, we will atempt to fix it. In the meantime, please
try reducing the BAUD rate setting to 19,200.

7. Contacting Equinox for support
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you experience any problems with this software, please e-mail your questions/comments to our

It is often useful for Equinox to know exactly how your programmer is configured so we can help
diagnose a problem as quickly as possible. Meridian can generate a text file which describes your
programmer setup. Please create this file as detailed below and e-mail it to Equinox.
To create a text file desribing how your programmer is configured:
i. Connect your programmer to your PC
ii. Launch Meridian
iii. Select --> Creates a textfile called libinfo.txt
iv. E-mail this file to Equinox along with a description of the problem you are experiencing.
We can not promise you an immediate answer, but we will try to get back to you within 48 hours.
