The Adapter is a mechanical part that connects the emulator to a target board. This is a board with the connectors (usually two) on the top to stack the emulator POD and a special header or spacer that fits to the target socket. DIP, PLCC, QFP, SOIC
The Adapter abbreviation includes (from left to right) the "AR1" code (means Adapter for the MR1 main board), the target MCU family code "AV" following a dash sign, the target MCU code (for example 8535 for AT90C8535 device), the chip package code ("D" means DIP, "L" means PLCC, "Q" means QFP, etc.) and the number of the chip leads (24, 32, etc). For example: the AR1-AV-8535-L44. Adapters for emulating microcontrollers in SOIC packages are formed by two parts - a DIP adapter (for example AR1-AV-TY12-D8) and additional adapter DIP-SOIC (for example PA-DS-0803). The last adapter also includes a part soldering on the target board instead of the target socket.
