DOS in the Box
The MINI-PC is a complete DOS-compatible computer based on a 80386EX-Prozessor fom Intel, and can be used everywhere, where smallest space and energy consumption is important.
The MINI-PC has four serial and one bidirectional parallel Interface. Both Interfaces are exactly PC-Standard and can be used normally from DOS as COM1 till COM4 or LPT1.
Developing like on the PC
Because the MINI-PC has neither an own monitor nor a keyboard, the user interface during development time is the COM-Interface. Using the supplied terminal programm V-Term you have full access from the MINI-PC to mass storage of the connected Host-PC, which reduces development time and time used for data analysis in later states dramatically. You program normally with already known DOS development environments e.g. Turbo-C.
Silent Drives
To be able to reduce size and energy consumption the MINI-PC doesn't have drives in the usual meaning (Floppy-Disks, Hard-Disks) but they are realised as virtual drives using the semiconductor memory.
In the integrated Flash-memory there exists a "Drive A:", which the MINI-PC is booted from. This drive behaves exacly like a normal Disketten-drive: It can be read, written to and programs stored there can be executed – only difference: it is faster and completely silent.
Another drive (B:) is implemented in the Static-RAM as a so called RAM-Disk. A battery buffers RAM and Real Time Clock for about 3 to 5 years.
By connecting a Compact-Flash card (optional Compact Flash Connector is necessary) a third drive with up to 100MB can be created.
